Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. The traits she displayed were normal for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland. He also owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club and a Dublin business. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and was a gruelling athlete in games as a child. She combined this interest with an equally natural gift to perform. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance that her country had to provide. At the age of 14 she joined an organization called the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying the classical theater and operatic singing.
